A Mountain of Anime News Landed During the Holidays
The Yuletide season provide a wealth of pursuits far superior than scanning the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and employing patience techniques to refrain from arguing with relatives. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items surfaced during the festive period, and if you overlooked any, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (By 2027)
Truly the most shocking revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop further production. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, by now, they are probably mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now everyone is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been going on for years, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has yet to be revealed.
