Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several key changes:
- Each team includes just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players seeking different methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
