Interior Minister the government has unveiled what is being described as the biggest changes to address unauthorized immigration "in recent history".

This package, inspired by the more rigorous system implemented by the Danish administration, renders refugee status conditional, restricts the appeal process and includes visa bans on countries that block returns.

Temporary Asylum Approvals

People granted asylum in the UK will be permitted to reside in the country for limited periods, with their case evaluated biannually.

This signifies people could be sent back to their country of origin if it is considered "stable".

The scheme mirrors the policy in Denmark, where refugees get two-year permits and must request extensions when they expire.

The government claims it has already started supporting people to go back to Syria willingly, following the toppling of the Assad regime.

It will now investigate compulsory deportations to Syria and other states where people have not routinely been removed to in recent times.

Protected individuals will also need to be living in the UK for two decades before they can apply for permanent residence - increased from the current 60 months.

At the same time, the authorities will establish a new "employment and education" visa route, and urge refugees to secure jobs or begin education in order to switch onto this route and qualify for residency faster.

Exclusively persons on this work and study route will be able to petition for dependents to join them in the UK.

Human Rights Law Overhaul

The home secretary also intends to terminate the practice of allowing multiple appeals in refugee applications and replacing it with a single, consolidated appeal where each basis must be presented simultaneously.

A new independent review panel will be established, comprising experienced arbitrators and assisted by early legal advice.

Accordingly, the authorities will enact a legislation to modify how the family protection under Section 8 of the European human rights charter is implemented in immigration proceedings.

Solely individuals with close family members, like offspring or guardians, will be able to stay in the UK in the years ahead.

A more significance will be placed on the public interest in expelling overseas lawbreakers and individuals who arrived without authorization.

The authorities will also narrow the use of Article 3 of the European Convention, which bans cruel punishment.

Authorities state the current interpretation of the legislation allows numerous reviews against denied protection - including dangerous offenders having their expulsion halted because their healthcare needs cannot be addressed.

The anti-trafficking legislation will be reinforced to curb eleventh-hour exploitation allegations utilized to halt removals by requiring asylum seekers to reveal all pertinent details quickly.

Ending Housing and Financial Support

Government authorities will terminate the mandatory requirement to offer protection claimants with assistance, ceasing guaranteed housing and regular payments.

Support would continue to be offered for "individuals in poverty" but will be denied from those with work authorization who fail to, and from individuals who commit offenses or resist deportation orders.

Those who "intentionally become impoverished" will also be rejected for aid.
