The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family navigate their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
