The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
